Sofia Chrysochoou is a doctoral candidate at the University of Cyprus, working under the supervision of Stavroula Constantinou. She holds an MA in Roman and Byzantine Archaeology from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK). Her main research interests include Byzantine ecclesiastical architecture and history of medicine in the Byzantine and post Byzantine period. She also has a strong interest in Byzantine iatrosophia and the intersection of medicine, religion, magic, and gender aspects in medieval healing practices. Her research project entitled ‘Monastic Medicine: Post Medieval Practical Handbooks (iatrosophia) from Cyprus’ focuses on a social approach to iatrosophia as they constitute cultural expressions formed by daily lives, concerns, belief systems, and mentalities.
