The UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality at the University of Cyprus participated in the conference titled "UNESCO Chairs in Cyprus: Bridges of Knowledge for Society and Culture", which took place on February 19, 2025, at the UNESCO Amphitheatre of the University of Nicosia.
The event was organized by the Cypriot National Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair at the University of Nicosia, to mark the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Chairs programme in Cyprus.
The conference aimed to highlight the work of the seven UNESCO Chairs currently operating at Cypriot universities, as well as their contribution to the promotion of knowledge, social cohesion, and cultural development. The programme included a short film screening, presentations by the Chair holders, and a roundtable discussion featuring the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, the Commissioner for Gender Equality, and representatives of the Cypriot and Greek National Commissions for UNESCO.

The UNESCO Co-chairs on Gender Equality at UCY, Associate Professors Dr Alexia Panayiotou and Dr Miranda Christou, presented the Chair’s work and recent actions in the context of the event's section dedicated to 'The Work of UNESCO Chairs in Cyprus'. Their presentation, titled “Gender Equality”, highlighted the Chair’s research, educational, and institutional initiatives, as well as its contribution to promoting equality policies and empowering the university community.
Through their participation, the Co-chairs underscored the importance of collaboration among UNESCO Chairs and the need for continued strengthening of actions that promote equality, human rights, and democratic participation.
Below is a short film dedicated to the work of the UNESCO Chairs based at Cypriot universities, produced by the Cypriot National Commission for UNESCO. The film was produced to mark the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Chairs programme in Cyprus and highlights the mission, achievements, and future prospects of each of the seven UNESCO Chairs operating at Cypriot universities.
