The Minor programmes of specialization are limited series of courses that offer an additional specialization to people already studying at the University of Cyprus in a major degree. They give a student the possibility to simultaneously follow a main field of study for which they have secured a place at the University of Cyprus and courses from another related or unrelated field of study, depending on their personal interests.

The Minor Programme in Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology comprises a total of 12 courses, equivalent to 60 credits (5 ECTS each), which offer a basic training in the fields of Byzantine Philology, Modern Greek Philology, Linguistics and Literary Theory. These are the following:

BNE 100 History of Byzantine literature
ΒΝΕ 120 Introduction to Modern Greek Philology
BNE 130 Introduction to the Theory of Literature
BNE 170 Milestones of Modern Greek Literature
BNE 150 Introduction to Theoretical Linguistics

RESTRICTED ELECTIVE COURSES

2 Courses in Byzantine Philology (level 200) without the restrictions that apply to the BA in Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology
3 Courses in Modern Greek Philology (level 200) without the restrictions that apply to the BA in Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology
1 Course in Linguistics (level 200)
1 Elective course (level 0XX or with the indication E) among the compulsory and elective courses offered in the department irrespective of the field of study.

Each course is credited with 5 ECTS. Students from all departments of the University of Cyprus can enrol in the Minor Programme in Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology from the third semester of their studies onwards. To complete the Minor programme, students can enrol in courses equivalent to up to 42 ECTS per semester.Applications for admission should be submitted each year before May 15 for the Fall Semester and before December 15 for the Spring Semester.
