July 4, 2025StoryPharm’s Induction Week at the University of Cyprus Marked a Great Success
The Induction Week of the EU-funded programme “Storytelling as Pharmakon in Premodernity and Beyond: Training the New Generation of Researchers in Health Humanities” (StoryPharm), coordinated by the Centre for Medieval Arts and Rituals (CeMAR, https://www.ucy.ac.cy/cemar/) of the University of Cyprus, was marked with great success.
The event, wich took place between 16 and 20 June at the University of Cyprus, hosted the programme’s partners and 19 doctoral fellows. This new research workforce is expected, through the innovative educational approach especially designed in the context of StoryPharm, to contribute in a decisive way to several sectors: academic, research, health, education, and cultural.
The Induction Week included seminars, workshops, guided tours, and lectures from specialists in health humanities, as well as sessions open to the general public. In the context of the event, the doctoral fellows gained a first impression of the field of health humanities. They also had the opportunity to meet each other and the programme’s senior members in person. Additionally, all members of the programme had the chance to become acquainted with the University of Cyprus and its cutting-edge research and to visit the its unique library. What is more, partners and fellows could gain insights into the rich cultural heritage of Cyprus through the specialised guided tours scheduled by CeMAR.
StoryPharm has been awarded a €5,1 million funding, as part of the competitive European Programme Horizon Europe (2021–2027), Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action – Doctoral Networks. The consortium is made up by the universities of Cyprus, Bamberg (Germany), Lund (Sweden), Salerno (Italy), and Cardiff (UK). The project also involves a series of non-academic partners – pharmaceutical companies, museums, libraries, municipalities, and a publishing house.
