Manuscripts, Materiality, and Reception as Cultural Heritage
University of Bamberg, 22-28 March 2026
StoryPharm is excited to announce its next training programme, the StoryPharm Spring School, that will be hosted by the University of Bamberg.
The Spring School brings together doctoral researchers, senior scholars, cultural institutions, and non-academic partners for an intensive week of advanced training in premodern Health Humanities.
The Spring School includes a rich array of the following topics:
- seminars and workshops on manuscripts and cultural heritage by members of the StoryPharm consortium and international specialists, including an introduction to manuscript studies, a seminar concerning selected manuscripts from the rich collection of the Bamberg State Library and workshops on visual concepts of medieval healing
- lectures by international specialists on the storytelling of illness throughout the Middle Ages, the interaction between medicine and the culinary arts in medieval health teachings, the terminology of sexuality in medieval medicine, and an overview of literature and medicine from antiquity to the Middle Ages
- a specially designed workshop for proposal preparation
- a workshop on publishing a doctoral thesis provided by De Gruyter Brill
- visits to the German National Museum of Nuremberg, Dr. Pfleger Arzneimittel GmbH, the Bamberg State Library, and the Diocesan Museum.
