The Department of Chemistry of the University of Cyprus and the pharmaceutical company Remedica signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on September 16, 2025, aimed at developing joint actions in research, education, and innovation, with a focus on areas such as pharmaceutical chemistry and green chemistry (development of sustainable and environmentally friendly chemical processes).
The collaboration includes joint research programs that will enhance the production of new knowledge, educational activities involving experts from both academia and industry, as well as internship programs for Chemistry students. At the same time, Remedica executives will participate in a series of lectures and seminars at the Department of Chemistry, highlighting the possibilities and career prospects of the field.
The Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofides, noted that the cooperation with Remedica substantially strengthens the work of the Department of Chemistry, creating opportunities for cutting-edge research as well as for the professional utilization of our graduates in high-demand areas of the labor market. This agreement also contributes to connecting the University of Cyprus with the developing Cypriot pharmaceutical industry.
The member of the Board of Directors of Remedica, Mr. Andreas Vasiliou, stated that the Memorandum of Cooperation constitutes an important milestone in the company's collaboration with the University of Cyprus, as combining the company's expertise in the pharmaceutical chemistry sector with the academic excellence of the University, creates opportunities for innovation, research, and talent development.
The Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, Associate Professor Savvas Georgiades, emphasized that this collaboration creates significant prospects for the Department, bringing students into direct contact with the modern needs and practices of the pharmaceutical industry and, overall, enhancing their educational and research activity and experience.
