December 11, 2025The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus has been recognized as the leading School of Engineering and Technology in Cyprus, maintaining its position among the top 20% of engineering schools in Europe ranking 60th across Europe according to the EngiRank 2025 ranking.
This year’s EngiRank ranking evaluates 300 academic institutions from 36 countries within the European Higher Education Area, including, among others, the United Kingdom. This expansion gives the ranking broader geographical and numerical coverage compared to 2024, when 228 institutions from 29 countries were assessed, making this year’s distinction for the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus particularly significant.
The announcement of the results took place in Brussels during a special event held as part of the international conference titled “Engineering for Security: Universities and Industry in Service of Defense”, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Marina Neophytou. This recognition carries particular weight given that the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus was founded just 25 years ago and today stands alongside historic European polytechnic institutions with traditions spanning more than 100 or even 150 years.
The EngiRank ranking, in collaboration with the international publishing house Elsevier, sets benchmarks for regional, subject specific rankings and is based on indicators developed specifically for Europe. The EngiRank methodology combines traditional indicators such as publications and citations with more specialized criteria, including collaboration with industry, joint research with enterprises, patented inventions, contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and accreditation of engineering programs (by organizations such as ENAEE and ABET). In addition, the evaluation criteria include participation in European programs such as Erasmus+ and Horizon, collaborations in European research programs (such as those of the European Research Council), and other academic partnerships. The data used for the ranking are drawn from Elsevier’s Scopus database, the European Patent Office’s PATSTAT database, Horizon Europe, and engineering education accreditation bodies.
This high distinction of the Faculty of Engineering once again confirms its commitment to academic excellence, demonstrating that within a relatively short period of time the Faculty has succeeded in standing out among leading institutions across Europe. Warm congratulations are due to all members of the Faculty and the University of Cyprus for their contribution to this achievement, which strengthens Cyprus’s role within the European academic landscape.
