December 11, 2025The Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Cyprus, successfully concluded the event “Stories of Modern Architecture for a Heritage of the Future”, held on 24 October 2025 as part of the European Heritage Days 2025, under the theme “Architectural Heritage – Looking to the Past, Opening to the Future.”
The event brought together professionals, researchers, and institutions involved in the management and preservation of architectural archives and buildings, fostering a productive dialogue around the question:
“When buildings ‘disappear’, how do we study, produce, and preserve their stories?”
The discussion highlighted the crucial role of the architectural archive in safeguarding modern architectural heritage in Cyprus, showcasing examples and practices that contribute to understanding and protecting our architectural identity.
This initiative was organized within the framework of the USHer research project of the Department of Architecture, in collaboration with the Scientific Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) Committee for the “Protection of 20th Century Buildings.”
The strong participation and engagement of the audience underscored the importance of ongoing dialogue about the management of contemporary cultural heritage, reaffirming the Department’s active role in promoting knowledge and awareness on issues of architecture and culture.
