When Buildings “Disappear”: Reviving the Stories of Modern Architecture as the Heritage of the Future | European Heritage Days 2025
December 11, 2025The 8th International Conference on Coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical-Chemical (THMC) Processes was successfully held from 20–23 October 2025 at the state-of-the-art facilities of the School of Engineering, University of Cyprus. The conference attracted 53 participants from 19 countries, highlighting its international character and its significance in the field of geomechanics.
The conference was co-organized by the University of Cyprus and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, providing an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and innovative ideas on the applications of Geomechanics in Energy and Environment, ranging from geothermal energy and CO₂ storage to underground hydrogen storage.
Led by Professor Panos Papanastasiou from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Cyprus University of Technology, in collaboration with Professor Evripides Papamichos from the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Dr. Charalambos Konstantinou, the conference hosted distinguished speakers from leading universities and research centers. Of particular interest was the special workshop dedicated to underground hydrogen storage, a cutting-edge field for the sustainable energy transition.
Beyond the scientific program, participants also had the opportunity to experience the hospitality and culture of Cyprus, enjoying the unique blend of academic engagement and cultural exploration.
