Conference for the official completion of the “KIOS Teaming” Project
April 16, 2025For the energy and environmental planning of the southeastern region of Cyprus, the University of Cyprus and the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 17, 2025, with the primary aim of fostering collaboration between the Municipality’s Services and the Energy & Environmental Design of Buildings Laboratory of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Cyprus.
Specifically, the collaboration will focus on the energy and environmental planning, management, restoration, and upgrading of buildings and residential areas. The goal is to implement innovative development models for exemplary residential zones, scientifically support municipal initiatives, and jointly undertake projects and activities of mutual interest.
As part of this collaboration, developmental and socially-oriented studies will be conducted. The University’s research staff will provide, among other things, expertise for the strategic planning of the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia for the period 2027–2034, contribute to the digital transformation and transition to an open digital civil society, and support knowledge transfer and the implementation of best practices in critical sectors.
The MoU extends beyond the collaboration between the Municipality and the Department of Architecture, also providing for partnerships with other academic departments and entities of the University, such as research centers and units. These partnerships will involve the co-organization of scientific and educational events and activities, placement of students and recent graduates in the Municipality, student involvement in projects, joint participation in funded research programs, and other related initiatives and actions.
