Georgios H. Georgiou, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus, and Researcher at the FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy of the University of Cyprus, is awarded as a Distinguished Researcher in the category of Physical Sciences and Engineering

Professor and Researcher at the FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy of the University of Cyprus, Georgios H. Georgiou, received a significant distinction in the framework of the Cyprus Research Awards 2025 of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), as he was awarded in the category “Distinguished Researcher – Physical Sciences and Engineering.”

Professor Georgiou is distinguished for his long-standing, consistent, and high-level research activity, with his work transcending the borders of Cyprus and reaching international research institutions and applications.

His award constitutes recognition not only of his scientific contribution but also of his mentorship of young scientists, who, through their collaboration with him, acquire valuable experience.

During the award ceremony, Professor Georgiou emphasized the importance of investing in research as a driver of progress for the country and highlighted the need to strengthen scientific structures with a focus on international networking and knowledge transfer.
