Nils Holger Petersen is Associate Professor (Emeritus) of Church History at the University of Copenhagen. He brings to NetMAR his expertise and experience as leader of research centres. He holds a degree in Mathematics (1969) and a PhD in Church History (1994). Nils Holger’s research interests lie in medieval liturgy and music, music drama and western cultural history. He has published widely in these areas and has been involved in numerous international research projects. From 2002 to 2010, he led the Centre for the Study of the Cultural Heritage of Medieval Rituals (CHMR), a centre of excellence sponsored by the Danish National Research Foundation. Between 2010 and 2014, he was project leader for an international research collaboration (including research groups from five European universities) under the European Science Foundation, “Symbols that Bind and Break Communities: “Saints’ Cults as Stimuli and Expressions of Local, Regional, National and Universalist Identities.” He was also general editor of the book series Ritus et artes: traditions and transformations from when it was founded in 2006 up to 2020. Nils Holger is area editor for music for the Encyclopedia of the Bible and its Reception (De Gruyter, Berlin-Boston, 2009-). He is also a composer (of mainly chamber music, church operas and electronic music). Nils’s micro-opera GRIEF (2020; libretto: Amanda Holden) is part of the corona-related digital opera project “OperaHarmony” at OperaVision (www.operavision.eu).
