January 23, 2026🧱 Urban Surfaces Research Network call for 2026 workshop participants: join us this year in Nicosia and Uppsala as we continue our surface-focused community building!
🔊 Are you a researcher or practitioner in the public or private sector whose work engages with urban surfaces, theoretically, methodologically, or creatively?
📅We are inviting expressions of interest to attend one of our 2-day workshops in 2026.
🚶♀️The workshops are in-person only and will take place on the following dates: Nicosia, Cyprus, 26-27 May 2026, hosted by Konstantinos Avramidis, Department of Architecture, University of Cyprus. Uppsala, Sweden, 27-28 August 2026, hosted by Tom Ward, Department of Human Geography, Uppsala University.
Summary details:
1️⃣ Small scale, deep study sessions for about 20 participants.
2️⃣ Presentations, co-writing and ideating sessions, and/ or site visits.
3️⃣ Travel bursaries available for Early Career colleagues from Europe.
⏰ The deadline for EOIs is 20 February 2026.

The workshops are part of an Urban Studies Foundation Seminar Series Award for the project "Walls speak. Are you listening? A research agenda for urban surfaces".
📍 The first workshop in the series took place in Melbourne, Australia, on 3-4 December 2025, hosted by Sabina Andron at the Melbourne Centre for Cities, The University of Melbourne.
