Three students at the University of Cyprus are among the 145 future digital leaders globally, who in the first week of July met in Rome at a pioneering technological gathering, as part of the educational program ‘European Seeds for the Future 2024’, organized by Tech4Good of PIM (Purpose In Motion), under the auspices of the technology company Huawei.
The ‘NeuroForce’ team, comprised by Pavlos Alexandros Demetriou (PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering), Georgia Michael and Andreas Panayi (of the Computer Science Department), as well as three students who represented Greece, developed the ‘Neurokinesis’ idea, under the guidance of their mentor, Harris Chrysanthou.
The product “Neurokinesis” enables individuals with complete body paralysis to regain control and independence through a thought-controlled headset device. The main concept, according to the team’s descriptions, focuses on the use of an auditory electroencephalogram (EEG), which, through AI, has the ability to “read” the person’s thoughts and provide movement to their wheelchair without the use of limbs or voice. Specifically, by using EEG processing and neural signal analysis, the device offers seamless and intuitive execution of intended actions, improving the quality of life and mobility of individuals with quadriplegia, while also promoting integration and technological advancement.
This year’s edition of European Seeds for the Future program featured workshops, panel discussions, and insights from industry experts and representatives from academia. Students from 23 European countries, had the opportunity to explore the complex and extraordinary world of Artificial Intelligence in practice and deepen their understanding of innovation, digitalization, sustainability and entrepreneurship, enhance their digital skills and contribute to building a strong, supportive community committed to a digital and intelligent Europe.
