International recognition for her work in Advanced Oxidation Technologies and environmental protection
The University of Cyprus is pleased to announce that Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos, Chemical Engineer at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, has been honored with the Dion Special Recognition Award by the CIPOA Committee—one of the largest international scientific communities dedicated to Advanced Oxidation Technologies (AOTs). The CIPOA Scientific Committee includes representatives from all Latin American countries, Spain, and Portugal.
CIPOA serves as a significant international platform for accelerating innovation and enhancing environmental protection through advanced chemical oxidation technologies, including both photochemical and non-photochemical processes in heterogeneous and homogeneous systems.
This particular award is exclusively presented to scientists outside the Iberoamerican region, making the distinction especially noteworthy, given the large number of outstanding scientists worldwide contributing to advancements in this field. The award ceremony will take place in Quito, Ecuador, in October 2026, during an event organized by the CIPOA Committee.

About the Dion Special Recognition Award (CIPOA):
The Dion Special Recognition Award, presented biennially by the CIPOA Committee, honors scientists from outside the Iberoamerican region whose sustained excellence and leadership have significantly advanced the science of Advanced Oxidation Technologies for environmental applications.
