December 11, 2025With great success and enthusiasm, the launch of the scheduled school visits to the new facilities of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus on the University Campus took place on Wednesday, 10 December 2025. The first visit hosted 40 students from Idalion Lyceum, who expressed strong interest in pursuing studies in the fields of engineering and technology. The students had the opportunity to become acquainted with the state-of-the-art facilities, the research laboratories, and the academic and research work carried out at the Faculty.
As part of the programme, the Faculty’s innovative study programmes were presented in the fields of Architecture, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. Particular emphasis was placed on the competitive advantages that make the Faculty of Engineering a top choice for studies, such as the high quality of teaching, strong links with the labour market, professional accreditation of the programmes, as well as extensive opportunities for international mobility and collaborations.
During the visit, a brief presentation was delivered on the Faculty’s study programmes in Architecture, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. The competitive advantages of the Faculty of Engineering were also highlighted, establishing it as a leading choice for studies in engineering and technology. Emphasis was placed on the high quality of teaching and research, supported by internationally recognised academic staff, with 25% of faculty members ranked among the world’s top 100,000 scientists. In addition, the strong connection of the study programmes with the labour market and industry was underscored, along with the assurance of professional practice licensing and the extensive opportunities for mobility and international collaborations with leading universities in Europe and the United States, enabling students to gain valuable academic and cultural experiences abroad.
The visit included a guided tour of the new, state-of-the-art buildings of the Faculty of Engineering, as well as three specialised research laboratories (the Smart Sensors and Electronics Laboratory, the Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics Laboratory, and the Environmental and Technical Processes & Water Systems Laboratory “Gaia”). Through the tour, students had the opportunity to become familiar with contemporary applications of research and technology and to understand the role of engineering in addressing modern societal and environmental challenges.
In addition, students had the opportunity to meet a member of the University of Cyprus Formula Racing Team. Through the team’s activities, the practical application of knowledge, teamwork, and innovation was showcased, through the design and construction of a single-seater racing car for the international Formula Student competition.
Throughout the visit, students were able to discuss issues related to the structure of the study programmes, career prospects, and the overall student experience at the University of Cyprus.
This visit constituted an important opportunity for students to become acquainted with the Faculty of Engineering and the applications of engineering and technology, further enhancing their interest in future academic and professional pathways in this field.
