The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus, in collaboration with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), is organizing the first “Academia Meets Industry” Roundtable Discussion, dedicated to the energy sector, launching a new platform for dialogue and collaboration between academia, the research community, and industry. The initiative aims to establish a permanent mechanism for communication and cooperation that will facilitate knowledge transfer, promote applied research, and foster the development of innovative solutions for the benefit of the Cypriot economy and society.
The Roundtable Discussion will take place on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, from 15:00 to 17:30, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus (ENG10 Building, Room 115). The event will bring together representatives of industrial organizations, companies, and stakeholders from the broader energy sector, as well as academic staff from the Faculty of Engineering. The objective of the initiative is to encourage the exchange of views, identify common priorities, and explore opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation, and workforce development. Particular emphasis will be placed on leveraging research expertise to address real-world industrial challenges, while also strengthening connections between businesses and the Faculty’s students and graduates through internships, placements, and targeted upskilling initiatives.
More specifically, the event will showcase the Faculty’s research capabilities and expertise in key areas related to the energy transition, including energy-efficient buildings and sustainable construction, renewable energy systems, power systems and energy storage technologies, as well as advanced and emerging energy technologies. At the same time, industry representatives will present the main challenges, needs, and priorities of the energy sector, highlighting opportunities for stronger collaboration with the academic and research community.
The “Academia Meets Industry” initiative is a direct outcome of the strategic partnership being developed between the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI). This collaboration was initiated following a working meeting held in April 2026 between the two organizations, during which they agreed to establish a structured framework for cooperation focusing on strengthening industry–academia engagement, promoting applied research, enhancing access to the Faculty’s research infrastructure, and supporting internships, skills development, and knowledge transfer for the benefit of the Cypriot economy.
