On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, the Linguistic Society of Cyprus, the University of Cyprus, the Open University of Cyprus, and Neapolis University Pafos are organizing the hybrid event “Where we feel the language, in what way we analyze it.”
On Friday, February 16, 2024, from 19:00 – 21:00, at the Pashalis Pashalidis Event Hall – Hellenic Bank Building, Nicosia (Limassol Ave. & Athalassa 200, Strovolos), with simultaneous online transmission.
In the first part of the event, two popular science books on linguistics will be presented: “Through Words” and “Between Meaning and Sound: Introduction to Linguistic Theory”, by linguist Professor Phoebus Panayiotidis. The books will be presented by linguists Loukia Taksitari and Spyros Armostis.
In the second part, a roundtable discussion will take place on the Cypriot dialect and its current position in society and the arts. The discussion will include engraver Chabis Tsangaris, and linguists Phoebus Panayiotidis, Stavroula Tsiplakou, Loukia Taksitari, and Spyros Armostis.
A certificate of attendance will be provided.
There will be no book sales at the event location.
