Marie-Luise Kosan is a PhD student at the University of Bamberg. In her art historical dissertation she analyses the function of sculptural depictions and the interrelated conception of architecture and sculpture on medieval church portals in the 13th century using the example of the portal hall of Freiburg Cathedral (south-west Germany). The dissertation project is supported by a scholarship from the Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst.
She is also interested in the different functions of images in medieval piety, with a particular focus on church interiors and liturgy, and practices of exchange in the High and Late Middle Ages. She holds a BA in Art History and Catholic Theology from the Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen and a MA in Art History from the Otto Friedrich University Bamberg. During her studies, she worked as a student assistant and tutor at several chairs and in several projects. Most recently, she worked as a research assistant at the Bamberg State Library.
