StoryPharm kick-off meeting event

Following the successful evaluation of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie – DN project with a budget of 4.1 million euros, the Centre for Medieval Arts & Rituals of the University of Cyprus has secured the largest funding for Humanities in Cyprus
The European Research Executive Agency (REA) has selected for funding a research proposal submitted by Dr Stavroula Constantinou, the Director of the Centre for Medieval Arts & Rituals (CeMAR) of the University of Cyprus. The proposal entitled “Storytelling as Pharmakon in Premodernity and Beyond: Training the New Generation of Researchers in Health Humanities” (StoryPharm) was submitted within the framework of the competitive action “Marie Skłodowska-Curie: Doctoral Networks” (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-DN-01) which is part of the Horizon Europe 2021-2027 programme. The project, which will start in September 2024, has a total budget of €4.1 million. This is the largest funding in the Humanities ever achieved in Cyprus.
StoryPharm received one of the highest scores (98.5%) on the basis of specific criteria including scientific excellence, the innovative methodology of the proposed PhD programme and its great impact. StoryPharm’s high score marks once again the important research being carried out at CeMAR, while at the same time it provides the University of Cyprus with another opportunity to coordinate a pioneering interdisciplinary project in the Humanities that examines ancient and medieval – Greco-Roman, Persian, Byzantine, Arabic and Western medieval – approaches to physical and mental illness, as well as the therapeutic role of narrative.
StoryPharm’s network includes five European universities (universities of Cyprus, Bamberg in Germany, Lund in Sweden, Salerno in Italy, and Cardiff in the UK) and seven other institutions (AVVA Pharmaceuticals Ltd – Cyprus, Dr. Pfleger Arzneimittel GmbH, Walter de Gruyter, Staatsbibliothek Bamberg, Erzdiözese Bamberg, Germanisches Nationalmusem – Germany and The David Collection – Denmark)
