Funding
This project is funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) and awarded to Dr. Pinelopi Konstantinou, recognized as Researcher of the Year 2024 in Social Sciences.
Project Aim
This project aims to:
- Utilize a digital tool and examine its efficacy for improving coping with unwanted internal experiences and reducing electronic cigarette use, urges, and cravings in real-time
- Predict functional vs. dysfunctional coping of unwanted internal events by utilizing a multi-signal approach using wearable devices and self-report assessments
- Recognize electronic cigarette use patterns through implementation of machine learning
Scientific and Clinical Impact
The PROACT project addresses a critical gap for researchers and clinicians seeking to predict and support coping with electronic cigarette use in real time. It advances the state-of-the-art by enabling real-time coping assessment via wearables and mobile technology, applying multi-method machine learning prediction, and delivering evidence-based, personalized feedback to promote healthier behavioral patterns.
