Responsibilities of the Office of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Finance, and Administration

Internationalization, economic development, and effective administration are three key prerequisites for the University of Cyprus to achieve excellence and distinction in the wider Euro-Mediterranean region and to effectively manage the various challenges for ensuring its operational continuity in times of crisis.

The Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Finance, and Administration works closely with the Administrative Services of the University and is responsible for managing matters related primarily to:

  • Financial Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Internationalization
  • IT and Building Infrastructure
  • Automation of the processes of the University of Cyprus

Bodies/Committees in which the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Finance, and Administration participates/presides

The Vice-Rector for International Relations, Finance, and Administration heads the Office and presides over the following Senate Committees: Finance and Personnel, International Relations, Information Systems, Building Development, and Rules and Regulations. The Vice-Rector is also the Vice-Chairperson of the Green University Senate Committee and a member of the Senate Committee on Planning and Development. The Committees are responsible for studying, designing, and forwarding policies to the Senate. They make decisions on matters related to the proper functioning of the University, in accordance with the University Law, Rules, and Regulations.

The Vice-Rector also holds the position of Vice-Chairperson of the Finance and Tenders Board and is a Member of the Council and the following Council Committees: Strategic and Financial Planning Committee, University Campus Committee, Regulations Committee, Personnel Committee, Committee for the Administrative Staff, and Disciplinary Board of Administrative Personnel. 

In addition to the above, he is a member of the Rector’s Council, Chairperson of the Safety Committee and of the Steering Committee for the e-University Project, as well as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus.

Activities of the Office of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Finance, and Administration

The Office of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Finance, and Administration collaborates regularly with the Administrative Services, the Faculties and Departments of the University, particularly in relation to the following aspects:

  • Preparation, management, and monitoring of the Budget of the University.
  • Development and implementation of the Strategic Plan of the University.
  • Preparation and implementation of the annual Operational Plans and Reports of the Administrative Services.
  • Analysis of revenue, expenditure, operating costs, and the specificities of the Programmes of Study.
  • Development of partnerships and international outreach of the University.
  • Conclusion, management, and monitoring of international agreements and collaborations.
  • Oversight of the IT and infrastructure development of the University.
  • Process automation and implementation of the Financial and Human Resources Management System (SAP).
  • Transformation of the University Campus into a Green, Sustainable and "Smart" Campus.
  • Management of matters related to Contracts/Tenders.

Furthermore, the Office of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Finance, and Administration is responsible for preparing and submitting proposals and studies, as well as carrying out tasks assigned to the Vice-Rector by the Bodies and Committees of the University.

The Office of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Finance, and Administration also manages communication with state and social partners, such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the House of Representatives, Local Authorities, etc., on matters within its remit.
