The Twinning project Brain Research and Integrative Neuroscience Network for COVID-19 (BRAINN) aims to advance the research and innovation capacity of the University of Cyprus for understanding, assessing and treating the effects of Long COVID syndrome on cognitive and mental health.

The objectives of the project are the following:

  • Scientific Excellence: Enhance the research and innovation capacity in the fields of applied neuroscience and neurorehabilitation at the University of Cyprus.
  • Collaboration: Form a network for effective collaboration between the University of Cyprus and three advanced partners in brain research: Maastricht University, Ghent University and King’s College London.
  • Expertise: Combine the interdisciplinary expertise of the partner’s research groups, which are internationally leading in the fields of neuroimaging, non-invasive neurostimulation, and digitalised assessment, and provide training to the scientific community and health professionals in Cyprus.
  • Research and Innovation: Develop state-of-the-art methodologies for understanding the effects of Long COVID syndrome on brain health and alleviating the neuropsychological symptoms.

The objectives will be achieved through networking activities and coordination actions, such as:

  • webinars,
  • workshops,
  • summer school,
  • staff exchanges,
  • expert visits,
  • conferences, and
  • student co-supervision,

as well as through the research programme, which includes:

  • focus groups,
  • an epidemiological study, and
  • an intervention study.
