The President of the Republic of Iraq included the University of Cyprus in his official visit. He stated that he was excited by the facilities on the University Campus, but also the work carried out by the Higher Academic Institution

With special honor, the University of Cyprus welcomed on the morning of Tuesday, December 12, 2023, A.E. the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid. During his two-hour visit, the Iraqi President discussed with the Rector’s Authorities issues related to the development and cooperation between the University of Cyprus and Iraqi Educational Institutions, Research, Education and the exchange of academics and students.

The President of Iraq, Dr Rashid stated that he was excited by the facilities of the Campus, but also the work which is carried out by the Higher Academic Institution and stated that although Cyprus is a small country, it nevertheless plays an important role in the region, due to its geographical character, its history, as well as the fact that it is a member state of the European Union.

Then, the President of Iraq was guided to the facilities of the “Stelios Ioannou” Information Center – Library, where he had the opportunity to talk with his compatriots studying at the University of Cyprus. Finally, the Iraqi President invited the University Authorities to visit Iraq and the country’s university institutions, in the context of strengthening the cooperation of the University of Cyprus with the corresponding academic institutions of his country.
