An extremely important visit took place on 11 December 2023 at the University of Cyprus with the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis, talking to the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr. Athina Michailidou and the Rectors of the Universities of Cyprus.

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr. Athina Michailidou, stated that the aim of Mr. Pierrakakis’ visit to Cyprus was to sign the cooperation program between Cyprus and Greece, a large part of which also includes synergies at the level of higher education, which has a prominent place in the governance programme. “Our goal is to rebuild and upgrade the quality of higher education, that’s why today’s meeting is taking place,” she added.

Mr. Pierrakakis briefly presented the plans of the Hellenic Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports in relation to Higher Education in Greece and the relations between the Universities of Cyprus and Greece. It is important, he stressed, on the occasion of the cooperation programme, to establish as close as possible relations in practice and in the field of education between the two countries.

A constructive discussion followed in which all the Rectors of the Universities or their representatives participated. The Minister of Education of Greece responded to questions and comments raised in the debate, regarding the offer of study programmes by Greek universities, the various education problems that arise in the modern era, the cooperation between the two countries and others. At the event attended, among others, the Ambassador of Greece in Cyprus Mr. Ioannis Papameletiou, the Counselor of the Embassy of Greece, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, officials and other bodies of Education and Research.
