The University of Cyprus brought a new perspective to the discussion of the arts and cultural heritage during wartime, hosting Dr Natalia Moussienko, a Leading Research Fellow at the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and Council member of Europa Nostra.

In her presentation, Dr Natalia Moussienko, highlighted the important role of artists. She also presented and commented on a series of artworks inspired by the war between Russia and Ukraine.

An interesting discussion followed, with interventions by Ambassadors and Embassy representatives. H.E. Mr Ruslan Nimchinsky, Ambassador of Ukraine in Cyprus, emphasised the long-standing cultural ties between Ukraine and Cyprus and referred to the importance of the arts and cultural heritage which in wartime  “act as a weapon and a shield”. The Ambassador of Poland, H.E. Ms Irena Lichnerowicz Augustin, referred to the special and important role of her country in supporting Ukraine and its people with a series of important cultural initiatives.
