Some specific workshops and training sessions will be organised for Cypriot stakeholders in R&I management and support by the European Office of Cyprus. These will take place back-to-back with other project events (Summer Schools, project meetings etc.) in order to maximize impact and, further to R&I professionals, to also allow Early Career Researchers to undergo transferrable skills training.
TWIN4MERIT Researchers Participate in Open Science Fair and UC3M Workshop in Madrid
Researchers from the TWIN4MERIT consortium recently participated in the Open Science Fair conference and a specialised workshop hosted by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), contributing to international discussions on the evolving landscape of Open Science and research evaluation.
The Open Science Fair brought together researchers, research managers and policy experts from across Europe to examine how Open Science principles are reshaping research practices and institutional governance. Participants explored topics such as transparency in scientific communication, responsible data sharing and the broader implications of Open Science for research policy.
Following the conference, members of the TWIN4MERIT consortium attended a dedicated workshop organised by UC3M focusing on analytical approaches used in the study of research systems and science policy. The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to engage with advanced methodologies for analysing research performance, bibliometric indicators and innovation dynamics.
The participation of the TWIN4MERIT team in these activities reflects the project’s ongoing commitment to engaging with international debates on the governance of research systems. By contributing to such forums, the consortium ensures that the knowledge generated within the project remains closely connected to emerging policy discussions within the European Research Area.
The exchange also reinforced the collaborative relationship between the University of Cyprus and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, facilitating knowledge transfer and strengthening the network of scholars working on issues related to the management and economics of research and innovation.
Bibliometrics Training Workshop at UC3M Strengthens Analytical Skills of TWIN4MERIT Researchers
Researchers and early-career scholars associated with the TWIN4MERIT project recently participated in a specialised training workshop on bibliometric analysis hosted at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
The workshop was designed to introduce participants to advanced analytical techniques used in the quantitative study of scientific publications and research collaboration networks. Bibliometric methods have become an increasingly important tool for understanding the structure and development of scientific fields as well as for informing research policy and evaluation practices.
During the workshop, participants explored the use of computational tools for analysing bibliographic datasets and visualising patterns of scientific collaboration. Particular attention was given to the Bibliometrix software environment, which allows researchers to map citation networks, identify influential research clusters and analyse the evolution of scientific topics.
In addition to the technical aspects of bibliometric analysis, the workshop also addressed broader questions concerning the interpretation and responsible use of quantitative indicators in research evaluation. Participants discussed the strengths and limitations of bibliometric metrics and reflected on how such tools can be used in ways that support transparent and responsible research assessment.
The training provided valuable methodological skills to participants and contributed to strengthening the analytical capacity of researchers working within the TWIN4MERIT consortium.
TWIN4MERIT Workshop Provides Guidance on Horizon Europe Proposal Development
A specialised workshop on Horizon Europe proposal preparation was recently organised within the framework of the TWIN4MERIT training programme, providing researchers and research managers with practical guidance on developing competitive research proposals.
The workshop addressed the increasingly competitive environment of European research funding and examined the key elements that contribute to successful project proposals. Participants were introduced to the structure and evaluation criteria of Horizon Europe proposals, including the importance of demonstrating scientific excellence, societal impact and effective project implementation.
Through presentations and interactive discussions, the workshop explored strategies for designing coherent research projects, structuring work packages and building strong international research consortia. Particular emphasis was placed on aligning project objectives with broader European research and innovation policy priorities.
Participants also discussed the broader strategic context of Horizon Europe and the role that collaborative research projects play in addressing major societal challenges and strengthening the European Research Area.
The workshop formed part of the TWIN4MERIT project’s broader effort to strengthen institutional capacities for participating in international research programmes and securing competitive research funding.
Trainee-to-Trainer Workshop Empowers Early Career Researchers
Early Career Researchers participating in the TWIN4MERIT project recently took part in a Trainee-to-Trainer workshop designed to strengthen their ability to disseminate knowledge and contribute to training activities within their academic communities.
The workshop focused on developing the pedagogical and communication skills required to translate specialised research knowledge into accessible learning formats. Participants explored approaches to designing effective training sessions and discussed strategies for facilitating interactive learning environments.
The initiative reflects the growing recognition that Early Career Researchers play an increasingly important role in knowledge transfer and academic training. By equipping them with the tools needed to share expertise within their institutions, the workshop contributes to strengthening the sustainability of the knowledge generated through the project.
Participants also reflected on the broader role of training initiatives in fostering collaborative research environments and supporting the development of interdisciplinary research communities.
The Trainee-to-Trainer workshop represents one of several initiatives within the TWIN4MERIT project aimed at supporting the professional development of emerging researchers and promoting the long-term circulation of knowledge within the academic community.
