The European Office of Cyprus (EOC) will organise Webinars twice per year related to issues of R&I management and support. These will be of interest not only for R&I managers and administrators but also for ECRs and faculty members. These webinars will involve key issues in R&I that are related to new calls for proposals, the shaping of R&I funding schemes, new horizontal issues in R&I, R&I policy developments at national and EU levels and other pertinent topics. Whenever possible, the advanced partners will be delivering the Webinars but in topics where the partners do not possess the expertise and thus impact and desired result of the webinar are not maximised, EOC will secure the participation of relevant top experts from its extended global network.
TWIN4MERIT Webinar Explores Diversity and Inclusiveness in Research Assessment
A scientific webinar organised within the framework of the TWIN4MERIT project recently examined the role of diversity and inclusiveness in contemporary research assessment systems.
The event brought together researchers and policy specialists interested in exploring how evaluation frameworks can better recognise the wide range of contributions made by scholars across different disciplines and career stages. The discussion reflected the growing international movement advocating for responsible research assessment practices that go beyond traditional quantitative performance indicators.
Participants examined how evaluation systems can incorporate broader qualitative dimensions, including mentoring activities, collaborative research contributions and engagement with society. Such considerations are increasingly recognised as essential for capturing the full spectrum of scholarly contributions.
The webinar also addressed the potential unintended consequences of narrowly defined performance metrics, which may disadvantage certain groups of researchers, including Early Career Researchers and scholars working in interdisciplinary fields.
By creating a space for dialogue on these issues, the webinar contributed to the broader objectives of the TWIN4MERIT project to foster critical reflection on how research systems can evolve in ways that support scientific excellence while also promoting fairness, inclusiveness and transparency.
