Writing architecture nearby – spatial stories of bodies, health and care | Emma Cheatle
Abstract:
In this talk I will trace the methodology that I have evolved to write about subjects that are historically left out of architectural and urban history, theory and humanities discourse, namely the subjects of the gendered body, health and care. I will begin with a revisiting of my 2017 book Part-Architecture: The Maison de Verre, Duchamp, Domesticity and Desire in 1930s Paris, that was developed out of my PhD research undertaken at the Bartlett, UCL. Here, making new kinds of analyses of a modernist iconic building, I was interested primarily in how the building constructed attitudes towards sexuality and women’s health. From this, travelling through my more recent research on histories of spaces of lying-in and maternal practices, and new research on embodied ‘storying’ of spatial health and care, I will draw out my combined interdisciplinary methodology of close observation through drawing and looking, and archival and literary research with creative and embodied writing. This research practice continues to be closely aligned to the material it analyses, namely spaces of health and care, and the bodies that use and inhabit them.

SENSUAL ECOLOGIES: Reaching the interspecific city through somatic ethnography | María Auxiliadora Gálvez
Abstract:
Sensual ecologies are referred here to the reconfiguration of bodies and environments through sensorial coalescence. Ecologies study relationships, what happen when new relationships are created through uncommon perceptions? Estrangement is a powerful tool in order to change the deep imageries about what compound us, in order to be anchored within the resources of post humanistic way of thinking. Immersion in the carnal avatars of the communities under these considerations gives us knowledge that is, directly, material for transformation and design. Design must turn into a time sustained interspecific performance. Somatic research is seen here as a powerful revolution for bodies and environments, for interspecific architectures and cities.

Urgent Pedagogies: how to unlearn in architecture schools? | LUCY
Abstract:
The aim of the seminar is to bring forward the need to revisit the pedagogical programs of professions such as Architecture. In order to address issues of injustice in the city, we firstly need to understand the role of architecture as a consolidation tool of the dominating powers. Then, a process of unlearning needs to take place. Urgent Pedagogies is an on-going project initiated by IASPIS, (Magnus Ericson and Pelin Tan), where Architecture is part of critical spatial practices, creating synergies with other material practices, such as visual arts. LUCY as well as the elective course, titled ‘Architecture’s Social Practices and their Political Agencies’, taught by Socrates Stratis, focus on such processes of unlearning. Pelin Tan, Magnus Ericson and Paulo Moreira will present their on-going work, in 15’ interventions.

Abstract:
Επανάληψη και σειριακότητα, τεκμηρίωση και ταξινομία, αρχειοθέτηση και αποθήκευση. Το κουτί, η βαλίτσα, η βιτρίνα. Η κάρτα ευρετηρίου, η φωτογραφία, το πλαίσιο. Αυτά τα συστήματα περίκλεισης και οργάνωσης έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί από καλλιτέχνες όπως ο Joseph Kosuth και η Sophie Calle για να εκθέσουν την εύθραυστη φύση του πραγματικού, να διαλέξουν το προσωπικό και το κοινωνικό, για να καταγράψουν το πέρασμα του χρόνου. Στα έργα τους, η υιοθέτηση αυτών των μέσων επικαλείται μια αίσθηση ματαιότητας που ενυπάρχει στην προσπάθεια ορθολογικής και αντικειμενικής οργάνωσης και, συνεπώς, κατανόησης του κόσμου. Η διάλεξη συζητά αυτά τα συστήματα οργάνωσης ως μέσα έρευνας και απεικονίζει τις δυνατότητές τους μέσω μιας ερευνητικής εργασίας: Excavating Home. Το Excavating Home υιοθετεί τα προαναφερθέντα συστήματα τεκμηρίωσης, αρχειοθέτησης και αποθήκευσης σε μια προσπάθεια να καταγράψει με ορθολογικό τρόπο τα αντικείμενα, τις πληροφορίες και τις χωρικές διευθετήσεις που «κτίζουν» το εσωτερικό της κατοικίας και δημιουργούν την αίσθηση του οικείου. Σε αυτήν την απόπειρα του να συλλάβει το νόημα της άυλης έννοιας του «οικείου» με υλικά μέσα, η ερευνητική εργασία ιχνογραφεί παραλληλίες μεταξύ της εσωτερικότητας του κουτιού, της εσωτερικότητας της ταξινομημένης συλλογής και της εσωτερικότητας της κατοικίας.

The use of modern metrology tools in the context of an interdisciplinary university of building and urban planning | Harald Sternberg
Abstract:
Part I _ HCU as an interdisciplinary university for the concerns of the built environment. HafenCity University Hamburg - University of Architecture and Metropolitan Development (HCU) is a university thematically focused on the built environment. HCU unites under one roof all aspects of building in design and drafting, engineering and natural sciences, as well as humanities and social sciences. HCU is consistently organized on an interdisciplinary basis. One of the university's special qualities is that all disciplines are considered in an integrated manner in research and teaching. Reference to application, technical knowledge, multi-perspective reflections and design creativity are the characteristics of education at HCU. Part II _The use of modern 3D measurement methods for recording and modelling buildings in BIM In geodesy, we use laser scanning to capture areas and buildings. The models developed from this serve as the basis for Building Information Models (BIM). With the help of artificial intelligence, the automated derivation of the geometric and also the semantic elements can be accelerated.

Χωρικές πρακτικές για το δικαίωμα κατοίκησης στην πόλη της Λεμεσού | LUCY
Abstract:
Στόχος του σεμιναρίου είναι να συζητηθούν κριτικές χωρικές πρακτικές που υποστηρίζουν ίση πρόσβαση στην κατοίκηση στη πόλη της Λεμεσού. Χωρικές πρακτικές που υποστηρίζουν εναλλακτικούς τρόπους και μοντέλα κατοίκησης σε ριζική διαφωνία με την κυρίαρχη Νεοφιλελεύθερη πολεοδόμηση. Θα συζητηθούν τρόποι καθημερινής αντίστασης που θίγουν τη συνθήκη της πολεοδόμησης της Κυπριακής πόλης που προκύπτει από τις πολιτικές κινήτρων και που μετατρέπει τις κτιριακές αναπτύξεις σε παγκόσμιο επενδυτικό προϊόν. Κατά συνέπεια, αφαιρεί το δικαίωμα κατοίκησης στην πόλη από την πλειονότητα των κατοίκων της. Συμμετέχουν, με 10λεπτες παρεμβάσεις, αρχιτέκτονες, εικαστικοί, δικηγόροι, και πολεοδόμοι. Το σεμινάριο θα αρχίσει με την προβολή του επτάλεπτου ντοκυμαντέρ των Λοϊζίδου και Στυλιανού με τίτλο "Ο κήπος της Ολγας".

Το αποτύπωμα της πανδημίας στις γεωγραφίες της Μεσογειακής πόλης | Λίλα Λεοντίδου
Abstract:
Ανάμεσα στις διαδικασίες που σημαδεύουν και σχηματίζουν τις γεωγραφίες μας τον τελευταίο αιώνα, η παγκοσμιοποίηση και η ψηφιοποίηση είναι ανθεκτικές μέχρι σήμερα, ενώ η αστικοποίηση παραπαίει τώρα που η πανδημία ανεβαίνει σε σημασία ανάμεσα στις προηγούμενες και τονίζει τραγικά την έννοια του παρασιτισμού. Θα ξεκινήσουμε την παρουσίαση με τη διερεύνηση των διαδικασιών που υπονομεύουν την ίδια την έννοια της πόλης στη δυστοπία του 2020, με τους κινδύνους μετάδοσης του ιού και με τα lockdowns, με τη στέρηση των βασικών δημοκρατικών δικαιωμάτων και των κοινωνικών και τεχνικών υποδομών, που χτίστηκαν εδώ και χρόνια, σε αναφορά και στις ιδιομορφίες της Αθήνας και της Καισαριανής. Θα αναζητήσουμε στη συνέχεια τις αλλαγές που σημαδεύουν τις πόλεις και ενδέχεται να αφήσουν ένα μόνιμο αποτύπωμα (footprint) της πανδημίας στις Μεσογειακές Γεωγραφίες. Θα τονίσουμε 9 κύρια σημεία που ενδέχεται να αποτελέσουν την «νέα κανονικότητα» για την αστική γεωγραφία της Ελλάδας και των Μεσογειακών συμπαγών πόλεων γενικότερα.

Renewable energy in buildings | Giovanni Barone
Abstract:
This presentation will focus on renewable energy exploitation in the building sector. Initially, the current world energy context and future scenarios regarding different energy policy are introduced. Then, a special focus is paid on the building sector that is responsible for almost 40% of world energy consumption. The main energy fluxes through buildings will be defined and different devices based on renewable energy sources will be introduced. After that, the definition of net/nearly zero energy building will be introduced and a suitable case study is presented. Specifically, it is referred to the design of the first non-residential net-zero energy building for a Mediterranean climate. Here, the building envelope and the energy plants are improved through the adoption of innovative technologies (e.g. phase change materials, low-emissive windows, high-vacuum solar thermal collectors, photovoltaic/thermal systems, etc.). Finally, design and operation for energy efficiency are discussed and possible solutions for retrofitting purpose are presented that will enable the existing building stock to be enhanced according to the European directive.

Αυτή η παρουσίαση διερευνά τη χωρικότητα των δραστηριοτήτων των κοινωνικών κινημάτων στην Αθήνα για την παροχής πρόνοιας - όπως τροφίμων, στέγασης, πρωτοβάθμιας υγειονομικής περίθαλψης και εκπαίδευσης - εστιάζοντας στα κοινωνικά ιατρεία και φαρμακεία αλληλεγγύης (ΚΙΦΑ) που παρέχουν ιατρική και φαρμακευτική περίθαλψη σε περιθωριοποιημένες ομάδες, προκειμένου να κατανοήσουμε πώς η κλινική ως υποδομή δημιουργεί διαφορετικές σχέσεις μεταξύ των συλλογικοτήτων, της πόλης και του κράτους.

Από την Αναπαράσταση στο Χώρο: Το αρχιτεκτονικό σχέδιο σε τρεις κινήσεις | Σοφία Μπανού
Abstract:
Οι συμβατικές μορφές του αρχιτεκτονικού σχεδίου περιορίζονται σε κυριολεκτικά ‘επιφανειακές’, δισδιάστατες εφαρμογές που παραδοσιακά αντικατοπτρίζουν τον αρχιτεκτονικό χώρο και την αναπαράσταση του ως στατικές συνθήκες. Μέσα από μια σειρά τριών πειραματικών σχεδίων, η διάλεξη θα διερευνήσει το σχέδιο και τις χωρικές ιδιότητές του, αναλύοντάς το σε τρεις βασικές ‘αναπαραστατικές κινήσεις’: την γραφή, την παρατήρηση και την χωροθέτηση. Τα τρία σχέδια εκτείνονται στον τρισδιάστατο χώρο για να διερευνήσουν τα άκρα αυτών των ποιοτήτων, εισάγοντας στο σχέδιο την έννοια της κίνηση και της διαφοράς και να αποκαλύψουν την εγγενή δυναμική του. Προσεγγίζοντας το σχέδιο μέσα από τα κύρια συστατικά του στοιχεία, η διάλεξη θα επιχειρήσει να προσδιορίσει τη χωρικότητα του σχεδίου, δηλαδή την δυνατότητα του να παράγει χώρο. Μέσα από αυτή τη θεώρηση, το αρχιτεκτονικό σχέδιο μπορεί να προσδιορίστεί το ίδιο σαν ένας πολυσχιδής αρχιτεκτονικός χώρος, με υλικές και νοητικές προεκτάσεις, του οποίου η λειτουργικότητα απαιτεί την ενεργή και ενσωματωμένη συμμετοχή του παρατηρητή/σχεδιαστή.
