The Department mourns the death of Professor George Nishiotis

The Department of Accounting and Finance mourns the premature death of Professor of Finance George Nishiotis, who died suddenly on Friday night, August 27, 2021. Prof. Nishiotis was only 51 years old.

George Nishiotis served as the Chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Cyprus. During his tenure as Chairman he contributed substantially both to the development of the department’s undergraduate and master’s programs in Finance and to the department’s global recognition as an outstanding research institution among the best in the world.

We will always remember Prof. George Nishiotis for his valuable contribution to the community, his acute and correct judgment especially when crucial decisions had to be made, his dedication to teaching and his continuous encouragement of students to acquire knowledge, his research curiosity and excellence and his exemplary collegiality.

Above all dearest George, we will remember you for your warm smile, your calmness, gentleness, your modesty and integrity, your humanity and compassion. Our dear George, words are too poor to describe the greatness of your soul. You will be greatly missed.
